Freebie! Top Ten Books I'd Want On A Desert Island
(Feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish)
Freebie day! Thought I'd revisit a topic from days of yore (or June 2010 according to the Top Ten archive :) So here we are with "Books I'd Want On a Desert Island". What could I stand to read over and over again? What would lift me up and get me through the lonely days?
For the purposes of this particular list, I'm just going to tackle fiction. If I was being strategic, I'd want a Bible to keep my spirits up and probably a book on how to survive on a deserted island...because I'm no Tom Hanks. I wouldn't survive for more than a day.
And just a heads up...I'm going to cheat. But that's okay. A book nerd will always find a loophole!
1) The Lord of the Rings (Omnibus) by J.R.R. Tolkien
The ultimate journey book(s) - cheater!! It's about perseverance. It's about hope.
And it's about believing you can survive an impossible situation
2) The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery
Every time I read it, I take away something new.
Time on a deserted island with this book could be wow.
3) Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
Because, what stranded individual couldn't use an adorable teen romance set Paris?
4) The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
I would actually just carry this book around with me everywhere. I love it that much.
Maybe Jim Dale could join me on the island and just read it to me over and over.
5) The Martian by Andy Weir
If Mark Watney can survive on the inhospitable environment of Mars, surely I could
hold out for a bit on a tropical island until someone found me!
6) Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
Because there needs to be at least one book that keeps me connected to the 80s :)
7) Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen
Because this girl will need a little whimsy.
8) Keturah and Lord Death by Martine Leavitt
Just love this one and want it with me.
9) Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
Rowell is an artist, and I want a book that is lyrical and beautiful with me.
10) The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis
The ultimate escape book(s) - cheater!!!
Sidenote: If The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater was complete, I would be making up an imaginary omnibus to take with me. It just needed to be said. Because a list without Stiefvater just doesn't feel right!
