Library GrabBag: Book Word Search
Emily 1, Teens 0!
The teens have been sooo frustrated (and quiet)...but they've also been engaged! Challenges have started to see who can finish first, friendships have been formed just trying to finish, and teens who don't normally participate have been sneaking in to pick a sheet.
Don't underestimate the importance of passive programming. If teens are bored, you're giving them something constructive to do. But if you're consistent enough, they'll come in just to find out what you're doing. We have teens that come in every week to check out the activity. They come in specifically to see what we're doing, because they know we're doing something. Sure...they get a piece of candy too, but they're thinking of us which is pretty special. It doesn't have to be big or flashy. Make it fun and challenging, and better yet, play along!
